December 17th, 2024

Every show from the past live Tuesdays :)

I love this first song because I’m a huge Frankenstein fan. As of the day I played this tune, this was their most recent single from over a year ago. But! On December 11th (the day after), they came out with another single called “Castanets” that you should definitely give a listen to as well. These guys seem super cool overall and I would love to hear their stuff live.

Frankenstein II ~ Oxer

Although they were on a short break at the time I played them on BK Buzz – one of them had a kid and they wanted time to let their sapling grow a little, as they put it <3 – this self-proclaimed “delicious duo” is back to performing live! They haven’t announced any shows in NYC yet but are playing more up North this month. Their show on the 18th is an EP release show so make sure to keep your eyes and ears out for new music from them as well!

Ferragosto ~ The Veggies

Coyote ~ Go Home

I’ve always been a big fan of animal symbolism in music. The coyote often symbolizes the search for freedom and adaptability. This makes for a very dynamic and moving song, as Go Home proves in this instance. There is a lot of potential for relating and seeing yourself in the lyrics of this song, as we all navigate life in our own way. I really like that :)

Flying Dream ~ Marvelle Oaks

After coming out only a little over a month ago, this song was their third released single off of their upcoming LP “Fuzzzo.” Although they haven’t announced the release date for that yet, make sure to keep your ears open for a tasty treat in the future! This song is very nostalgic; it reminds you of childhood, a bit folktale-y. Give it a listen to hear for yourself.

This band is so awesome. They describe themselves as “dane punk for the deranged” which is endlessly cool. They recently had a show at Purgatory on New Years Eve that was chock-full of a ton of my local favs that I was sad I couldn’t make it to. Crush Fund has been on my list of bands to play for a long fucking time so I was very happy I got to fit them in for the semester’s final show. This song was off of their most recent EP called “New Fixation.” I had a hard time picking which song on the EP to play today which is always a great problem to have, but that proves you must listen to the whole album!

W.W.Y.D. ~ Crush Fund

Getting Bitter ~ Teenage Halloween

First of all, love that name. Two things I love, acting like a teenager and the best holiday out there. This tune is very catchy while capturing the bittersweetness of change and the frustration that can come with it.

✬ They just had a show in Brooklyn but they will be playing on January 30th in Philly! I know I never announce shows not in NYC but I figured since I’m not even in the city right now, I could make this exception ;)

I Sang to the Moon (ft. April Gloom) ~ Tula Vera

I love this whole album. I’ve played it before when I played “I Hurt You,” which still gets stuck in my head frequently, although I’m never mad about it because it is just so good. They also played that New Years Eve show that I would’ve loved to have been able to make it to. But, that just means I am hugely excited to see them live another time! A little secret but not so secret side note… Go to their bandcamp for awesome demos they don’t have streaming anywhere else and make sure to support them over there! (We love bandcamp in this house.)

Georgia Says ~ Meyru

On the day I played this tune on BK Buzz, it had only just been released! I saw Meyru support Fetch Tiger live at Mercury Lounge over a year ago now, and I was blown away by their performance.

✬They will be playing at Bowery Ballroom on February 27th! Trust me as someone who can vouch for their stage presence, Meyru is definitely worth seeing in person so make sure to check them out in February!

Barry Bonds ~ My Son the Doctor

I played these guys so long ago, but here they are once again! At the time this was their most recently released single, but a few days ago they came out with another called “Lawrence Bigando” which you should definitely give a listen to as well. That new tune is a taste of their upcoming album that is meant to come out in April and is called “Glamours.” Keep your ears ready for that as I know I am!

Traveling Girl ~ Arsun

This song is very p[olitical and it hit me pretty hard the first time I heard it, especially since it was so soon after the recent election. Bad Static also has more riot grrrl music releasing on January 31st called “Not Yr Doll” which I’m very excited for.

✬Word going round is that they will be playing live in NYC on February 17th, so keep your calendar open for that as more details are released!

Anatomy Autonomy ~ Bad Static

Completely switching up the vibe from the last one, this tune is so comforting and sweet. You can really feel the longing and dreaminess dripping off this atmospheric song. I highly suggest you give this one a listen for yourself, since I have a hard time understanding how anyone wouldn’t enjoy it in some way or another. Can’t wait for summer to listen to it in the warm sun.

Something New ~ Awksymoron

Aaaaah another group I just love so much. I played their other newer song called “All Bets Are Off” back when it came out too, and I still listen to it frequently and tell everyone to listen to it because I think it’s just perfection. Despite my unspoken rule for myself of not playing the same artists very often, I had to share this other tune of theirs. It’s very dreamy with beautiful instrumentals that just make me melt. Please give Awksymoron all the love they deserve.

Purple Ghost ~ Crab

This song is off of Crab’s self-titled LP, and I want to shout out their more recent single from a few weeks ago “Eoka” as well.

✬ Crab has an EP release show coming up on February 1st at Rabbit Hole in Brooklyn! It always looks like their live shows are so much fun, definitely check them out for a good time.

TRIPWIRES - MONSTER FURNITURE

This tune is light and makes me feel very warm. It also has really sick instrumental breaks with an impressive conglomeration of different instruments. This has been my bookmark ending song all semester in case my show runs shorter than I expect, so I thought for the final song on the final show of the semester I should finally let this ghosting tune free and let everyone hear it because it is so so so good. Thank you for a wonderful fall of radio and local NYC music <3

December 10th, 2024

I’ve been wanting to do an instrumental-exclusive show forever now and I thought this week would be perfect since not a lot of bands have shows over Thanksgiving and all us Pratt students are entering finals which is perfect for a study hour. The first couple of songs are exceptions, to get a couple shows announced, but otherwise all the following songs are instrumental! There’s a mix of old and new, played or not played, gentle or energetic, so there’s something for everyone. :)

I listen to a lot of instrumental music as I work or study, and I played this particular song on repeat for a long period of time after I discovered it probably a year ago. Great energy, perfect song.

Great way continue the beginning of the instrumental study hour with some natural sea (see?) sounds and a fantastic tune.

moments - the sees

g bus - tired horses

texas chainsaw dilemma - computerwife

Switching up the vibe with this very unique lyricless song that is sort of an intermission in this self-titled album. Don’t be alarmed if you hear some screams.

Talking about this song on air I made a comment about how I may be pronouncing this band’s name wrong and I only now noticed the irony in that with the title of this song. Anyway, this is a really good one and you should listen to the rest of their music, and they have a couple fun music videos as well.

✬ They will be playing at Mercury Lounge, a venue I love, on November 29th. Go see them this Friday!

I had the chance to chat with this band and they seem endlessly cool and kind. I also am a big fan of this album art — I bet it’s a real painting. Love <3

flat circle - pain don’t hurt

how do you say my name? - samsara.

Seabird - molly murphy

I played Molly Murphy probably a year ago now but I just adore her music. More folky and gentler, and overall just incredibly beautiful. The EP of hers that I played before and still listen to is called “Were You Digging for Some Deeper Meaning?” and it deserves your listen as well.

✬ Molly Murphy will be playing at Arlene’s Grocery on December 2nd! Make sure to catch that show.

migratory patterns - peel dream magazine

I have loved Peel Dream Magazine for eyars and have played them a handful of times before to show that love. This is their newest album from earlier this fall that is absolutely FULL of fantastic, vibey tunes. Including some instrumental songs! I love them so much, equally-so their instrumental songs, so I had to play more than one (you’ll see another later in the hour).

✬ They will be playing at the Music Hall of Williamsburg on March 7th! Everyone has to go to this show to make up for the fact that I can’t make it...

Continuing the spooky vibe with this band I’ve more recently discovered and they scratch my spooky brain perfectly. This is another album worth a full listen, called “Shadow Work”

Entering a moment of spooky vibes here. I love Cindy Cane; I listen to their song “Exorcize!” pretty frequently. I just adore the old horror movie vibe of all their stuff.

fish out of water - pons

mary, johnny, and me - peel dream magazine

I absolutely love a themed album. If you’re wanting a sailor-at-sea vibe, this short but sweet tune is the song for you.

Here is our other Peel Dream Magazine song! This is another full album of great music, definitely give it a listen. This is one of my favorites to listen to while I work.

1978 - cindy cane

sanitarium - haunting ghosts

dune - gift

I played GIFT what feels like years ago now but this is another song I played on repeat for a long time after I found it, perfect vibe and background for my work.

love paste - sunwatchers

If you’re looking for a band that exclusively plays instrumental bass with a zesty pop of personality, Sunwatchers are perfect for you. Also, we are so alike if that’s your vibe, we should hang out some time. I love Sunwatchers so much and they are perfect for today’s instrumental show, so I had to play two of their songs in a row. This first ones old, the next one is newer.

there goes ol’ ooze - sunwatchers

This is such a fantastic song name — it makes me giggle out loud. This tune has a similar but different sound to the previous Sunwatchers song, showing their great variety and talent in their music. I just love these guys so much!

mystic brokerage - miserable chillers

amethyst basilisk - party friends

I played a different song of theirs last year, but here is a new tune off of their more recent album from this summer called “Great American Turn Off” — give it a listen!

Embarrassed myself on air attempting this tongue-twister of a song title, lmao. Party Friends is another great pick for you if you’re looking for energetic instrumental music!

This is literally just the shortest little introduction to her full album, “Fountain Baby,” but I think it is so beautiful and it transports me to a different world when I listen to it, so I needed to play it for you.

all my love - amaarae

diving bell - row home (feat. marco benevento)

Ending the hour today with another solid jazz tune from a great local jazz band if you’re ever looking for a full discography of instrumental music. Have a great Thanksgiving holiday break, everyone!

November 19th, 2024

Wanted to start off strong today with a song I feel like I can dance to, get in my feels with, or listen to driving with the windows down. This is off of Whitehall’s album “Maizy” from last year, and this is personally one of my favs off of the album. I know I usually share songs that were just released and things like that but I love Whitehall and unfortunately missed their recent show they played with Tennis Courts, so I felt like I needed to make it up to them and the music gods by sharing today. <3

Don’t Check Your Phone - Whitehall

New release alert! This is only Flatsceen’s second music drop ever, with two new songs just a few days ago after their last two-song drop from last year. Long-time listeners will remember when I played their tune “Chandelier” back then!

✬ They will be playing in Queens at Bridge and Tunnel Brewery on November 20th! Make sure to check them out there for an awesome, cheap live show. They’re playing with City Ice and The Great Googly Moogly who are other great local bands too!

No Job - FlatscreeN

New release alert, pt. 2! This is the first song GRASS FED has ever released to streaming, followed by an even more recent release “I’m Leaving” that you should give a listen to as well. I think this group has a lot in store for us in the future; definitely keep your eyes and ears out for them. They just had a couple live shows and they looked really fun too. Can’t wait for more from GRASS FED!

No Sheets - GRASS FED

Workin So Hard - FRYBOYS

This is FRYBOYS first released song which came out this past summer. I really love so many aspects of it. Great vocals and harmonies and satisfying lyrics, all with a really tight and groovy instrumental to back it. I wanted to play them this week because…

✬ They will be playing live November 20th at Bowery Electric. Definitely a show you won’t want to miss. Other great bands will also be playing that show – there’s 3 great groups and a DJ for a cheap blast of an evening – and one of those bands is actually the next band coming up!

This tune is off of their latest EP from about a month ago called “Howdy” which is worth your time all the way through. Contrary to what you may expect, they are not a country band but rather a sick rock group with great vocals and guitar riffs. I’m obsessed with this song specifically – it has wordplay that could even be humorous, but it’s also just so real about having a hard time understanding your body.

✬They will be playing at Bowery Electric on November 20th! (Along with FRYBOYS who was played previously as well.)

Emotional Discharge - Boy Howdy!

YOLO Crayon - Loren Berí

Oh my gosh, I’ve been obsessed with Loren Berí for a hot minute now and am so excited I’ve found the moment to play them. Their sounds are so unique and scratch my brain perfectly – whether it be the beautiful piano breaks or electronic soft beats – all accompanied by fun and thought-provoking lyrics. This specific tune is off of their most recent album, “Alby’s Ghost,” that came out a month ago. This album is packed with eighteen songs and I could happily listen the whole way through any day. I highly recommend it to everyone.

Leathered has been on my list of “to-play”s for months now! I was reminded of them when I got to talk to the women from The Roulettes and Rebecca Roulette was wearing their cool rose merch. Leathered seems so cool all around though. Their Bandcamp describes them as “blown-out, blissed-out, near-shoegazey rock and roll” just to get a taste. :)

✬ They will be playing at Our Wicked Lady in Williamsburg on November 21st! I hope it isn’t too late in the season to have their rooftop stage open because I love it up there.

Hours - Leathered

Lindsey - armor king

Yeeees, so much new music! This is only armor king’s second released song, after their first was only a couple weeks before that! (The first one is called “Panopticon” – as an architecture student, this name was intriguing and tickled me a bit.)

✬ They will be playing at Elsewhere Zone 1 on November 21st for a 16+ show! 16+ shows are rare these days so all you youngins should take advantage of it and have a blast doing so :)

BODEGA is huuuuge and I think I haven’t played them since my very first semester on WPIR in 2022 and I had no listeners (don’t quote me on that, perhaps I’ve played them more recently as well?). But, a very very exciting full length album of theirs dropped only a couple weeks ago! The album is called “Brand On the Run” and you should give it a full listen. I had to pick this particular song because I live a street over from Myrtle and wanted to give one of my fav Brooklyn streets a shout out. “Myrtle Parade” has a very vibey, chaotic, and fun music video too if you’re looking for interesting visuals!

Myrtle Parade - BODEGA

Canary - bloodsports

This is a song I like to close my eyes to and really just feel. One of 6 songs bloodsports has released so far, and so far my favorite of theirs. I can’t wait to see what they do next.

✬ They will be playing at Trans-Pecos on November 23rd, supporting Mx Lonely who was played on BK Buzz last semester for those die-hard listeners. Really cool combination of bands, definitely try to make it out to this prime Saturday night show.

I have so much inspiration from and respect for this band. After being emotionally destroyed by the election, I saw their words and positivities and it genuinely made me smile and feel strong when I thought I couldn’t. Their music and their live shows are spaces for both queer joy and queer rage, and I want to go to one of their upcoming shows so badly. Not to mention, their music rocks out hard and embodies all these strong emotions we have been feeling. It’s awesome.

✬ They will be playing at Brooklyn Music Kitchen on November 23rd! Make sure to see them!

Apathy - eevie echoes & the locations

Fear of Death - Fire Motel

This tune is off their album “The World an Opera” which turned one year old last month! I really vibe with the whole album – sonically I love the bass and the more subtle and unique clicks and beats of guitar and drums all throughout. I’ve had my eye out for activity from them recently so I was incredibly excited when I saw…

✬They will be playing live at Bar Freda on November 23rd! I’m imagining this show will be so vibey, with the other artists playing too. Definitely a good show if you want to smile and sway with some good pals.

Morning Glories/As the Crow Flies - Weathergirl

Picking up the rock heaviness with this one, although the vocals are equally as soft and beautiful. This is one of Weathergirl’s three released songs right now, and my personal favorite. All the people in this band seem so endlessly cool, and their music reflects that too.

✬ They will be playing at Empire Stage in Crown Heights on December 13th! Along with a few other really sick groups like Um, Jennifer? who I have been vocal about loving in previous weeks. Definitely a show you don’t want to miss! You have a couple extra weeks to plan for it too than I usually give you ;)

November 5th, 2024

Happy first birthday to this EP called “Skin of My Teeth” that is definitely worth a full listen! Lowertown is a special band to WPIR because they are the first band we ever covered on our online magazine “Off-Air” about a year ago now. You can check that out on our regular streaming website. Olivia O, one of the members, just released a full length solo album called “”No Bones, Sickly Sweet” that you should check out as well!

obscurity - lowertown

Holy moly I am so impressed and in love with this band right now. Incorporating saxophone, piano, and trombone, they’re musical experts making everything I could ever want (and want to dance to). This is off of their new EP “Recess” with 5 fantastic tunes.

✬ They will be playing at Arlene’s Grocery on November 9th with a few other bands, one of which is featured later in our show this Tuesday morning!

Wrong Time - Recess

This is their new single from just a few days ago! It’s off of their upcoming album that’ll be out in February, so make sure to keep your eyes and ears out for that release. As it was described to me, “It is a high energy rock track about discouraged romance, football players and sexual awakening.” Incredibly fitting description, plus I adore guitar rock.

✬ They will be playing at Arlene’s grocery this Sunday on November 10th!

This is Rosetooth’s debut single that came out only a few days ago! Their sound is hazy grunge, feeling very atmospheric. I can’t wait to see what they come up with next. They have a lot of cool, hazy visuals representing them on their website and instagram. If they were to ever come out with a music video, I bet it’d look awesome since they seem to have a great creative eye for things like that.

Bloom - Rosetooth

He’s an outlaw - ok king

A lot of singles came out November 1st and this is one of them! I think Outer Shapes are HIGHLY under-rated. They make a great beat and include so many unique sounds in all their music, I’m always impressed. They have a FULL EP dropping November 15th too, and you all will have to check it out. I’m always desperate for new stuff from them!

✬ They will be playing at The Parkside Lounge on November 22nd! Definitely make it to this one if you love queer live music like I do.

i’m not home - outer shapes

deadbeat - picture show

As a busy student with insecurities at an art school, lots of this song resonates pretty deep sometimes haha. Good thing it’s so easy to smile and vibe to!

✬ They will be playing at Bar Freda on November 8th with Moon Sand Land who has been featured on BK Buzz before and hiFi who I’m sure will be in the near future ;) Definitely try to make it to this show for a night worth a Friday evening!

This song is special because it has a very spooky DIY accompanying music video that came out on Halloween! It makes me yearn to make homemade movies with my friends. And now that I’m in the post-Halloween blues I like rewatching it! Opening the video shows the words “a band went missing after stopping for shelter at a house they believed belonged to a family member…” and if that doesn’t entice you then I don’t know what will.

count to ten - chatterbox

team player - career day

Fresh punk EP hot off the press this fall! Listen to the whole EP, “I’ll Always Be This.”

✬ They will be playing at Purgatory on November 8th with some familiar bands who have been featured on BK Buzz before! After that they will be setting off on their tour with WATERMEDOWN which is endlessly exciting. I wish them the best of fun!

This is off of their newest full length album, “Feats of Engineering” that came out earlier this fall. I love the whimsy and instrumental elements of this whole album, I definitely recommend a full listen.

✬ They will be playing at the Music Hall of Williamsburg as a part of GEESEFEST (Geese on tour) on December 7th! Definitely a show to check out with a few great bands in a great venue.

doughland - fantasy of a broken heart

cigarettes and vanilla - colorjoy

Although this isn’t the newest album, I still wanted to feature it because I think it is a really fantastically put together album and NYC should be proud of it as a representative of our local music.

✬ They will be playing at Arlene’s Grocery on November 9th, with Recess who opened our Brooklyn Buzz show today! This is definitely a show to make it to, with FOUR fantastic bands in a night.

close to me - tomorrowish

Happy one year birthday to this album, “Almost Home,” (but a month late…). This is a lovely song about being head over heels for someone. This tune is full of unique electronic moments, groovy bass, a cozy beat, and lots of lyrics about love. I thought it would be a lovely way to end the show this week. <3

October 29th, 2024

Hosting Brooklyn Buzz has given me the opportunity to find so many artists that I’ve since fallen in love with. Pom Pom Squad has a special place in my heart as one of the very first bands I had this experience with, probably at least 2 years ago now. This emotional track is off of their newest album, “Mirror Starts Moving Without Me”, that came out just this past Friday! I strongly encourage you to give it a full listen – Pom Pom Squad is going to be the next biggest thing, calling it now. Not to mention this specific song has a really sick and stylistic music video you should watch!

✬ They will be going on The Mirror Ball Tour in 2025, with a show at The Music Hall of Williamsburg on April 4th!

spinning - pom pom squad

wax poetic - superswell

Getting more hardcore rock with this one now. This is off of their newest EP “Images of New Violence” that also just came out this past Friday! There have been numerous releases this weekend, it’s very exciting for us local band lovers.

✬ They will be playing at Our Wicked Lady on November 1st alongside 3 other sick bands that were played within the BK Buzz hour this week. Definitely check out this show! I went to OWL this past weekend for a different show and it is a really cool venue too.

heaven sent - water gun

This is an older song of theirs but it is definitely still worth a play! It is a bit more dreamy and oddly hypnotic for me personally, I like just closing my eyes and listening.

✬ They will be playing on October 29th at Rubulad in Bushwick along with a few other bands, one of whom is also featured on BK Buzz this week. You’ll definitely want to make it to this show, and make sure to go in costume!

cowboy killer - surf witch

Great band and song title, first of all. This single came out a month ago now but it fits perfectly for this time of the month, talking about horror movies and spooky themes. You can hear many different movie genres throughout the verses actually! I’ve seen this tune be described as a “trip to the gothic saloon” which I think is very fitting.

✬ They will be playing on October 29th at Pianos if you’re looking for a great spooky indie show to attend.

A sick heavy metal trio, Strawberry Glass has just released their first single this past Friday! Unfortunately they have unexpectedly needed to take a hiatus from playing shows, but everyone should give this tune a listen as support and say a big “get well soon!” I can’t wait to see what they come out with next.

spider - strawberry glass

picasso picasso - le boss

I can’t help but groove and dance a little ditty when this song comes on. And then when you lock into the lyrics you realize how much thought was put into every aspect of this tune. I’m obsessed.

✬ They will be playing at Our Wicked Lady on November 1st alongside Superswell who was played earlier and 2 other sick bands. This is the last time I'll say it to avoid being repetitive, but OWL is a really cool venue. You all should go!

bulldog - candy ambulance

Wake up everyone, the favs dropped more music! I’ve been a huge Blanket Approval fan for a while now and I have been CRAVING new tunes from them so I am very satisfied. I have even had the first hand pleasure of seeing them perform live, so I can tell you with confidence that they’re definitely worth seeing. Good thing too, because they have a show coming up!

✬ They will be playing at the Our Wicked Lady show on November 1st! I know for a fact they’re fantastic performers so you have no excuse not to go now.

This song is off of their first ever EP that came out earlier this year, titled “The Rot.” I had a hard time picking a song to play off of this one because each track has its own awesome qualities. The Dutch Kills overall are so cool, definitely listen to the whole EP. I need more women leading rock! This band gives me everything I want.

✬ They will be playing on October 29th at Rubulad in Bushwick along with Water Gun who was featured earlier! Wear a costume and have a blast :)

Perfect representation of grungy rock, reminding me of the 2000s on the down low. If any of you have seen Pam and Tommy with Sebastian Stan and Lily James, they have a different song called “Road Valium” in the show, which I thought was just too fun of a fact to not share.

✬ They will also be playing at the Our Wicked Lady show on November 1st! I’m being so serious, go to that show! I can’t make it so you all have to go for me.

counter - the dutch kills

hot sweaty summer - blanket approval

steal the night - skorts

I am constantly blown away by SKORTS, I can’t believe it has taken me this long to feature them. They have dark wave disco influences and a groovy post-psych sound, with this particular track as a great encapsulation of their usual style. If you have seen their stuff around, I am happy to say that they sound just as awesome as they look.

✬ They will also be playing at Knockdown Center on October 31st (Halloween!) For the 19th annual Haunted Hop! They will be performing as Heart, and they’re already rocking it with their album cover recreation. They have a few other upcoming shows as well if you can’t make it on Halloween!

Hnry Flwr is another obsession of mine – leaning toward the more cozy folk sounds I gravitate toward especially when I’m basking in the summer sun. This is their new single from less than a week ago, and has an accompanying just-as-cozy music video! It ponders the death of singer/songwriter Hank Williams in the newer context of increasing social media influence. Hnry himself states it is one of his proudest writings, which is very special.

hank williams (50k followers) - hnry flwr

This is their most recent single just released last Saturday, after their first released single came out only last month! I’m very excited to hear what they have coming up because I’m obsessed with this song. You perhaps know by now, I love these exact electronic sounds. Seems like there may also be a music video release for this tune? Don’t take my word for it though, I’m just taking context clues ;)

✬ They will be playing November 2nd at Berlin Under A! Good chance to see some great up and coming bands before they get oober-popular.

prophet margins - snowmen

October 22nd, 2024

This is their first released song on streaming and just came out within the past week. I’m excited to see what they do next. I was patiently anticipating this release and Diner Pets did not disappoint!

✬ They will be playing in NYC on December 5th at Unruly Collective!

Like a Doll has such a cool style, both musically and visually. This is their single that came out this summer — definitely give all their music a proper listen as well.

dust from a heart - like a doll

yellow shady house - diner pets

it ain’t so bad, it’s worse - mother feather

Frequent BK Buzz listeners will know how much I love Mother Feather! Seeing them earlier this fall was a dream. This is off of their newest full length album, “KICK3R”, that just released! I have been anticipating this one for a loooong time, definitely give the whole thing a listen.

Today was finally the perfect day to play Wakelee with their new single release, alongside “Doghouse”, another fantastic track.

✬ They are currently on their Doghouse tour and will be playing in Brooklyn on October 26th at Brooklyn Made!

rejoice - wakelee

alone anyway - pencildive

This tune is off of their new Ep from the end of the summer, “Watch the World” which deserves a full listen.

✬ They will be playing October 25th at Our Wicked Lady in Williamsburg for a Halloween rooftop rager! I’ll be at this show to see Pencildive and a couple other bands I played long ago on BK Buzz. Put on a costume and come join me!

birthday boohoo - dead tooth

Happy one month birthday to “DEAD KEYS,” Yuvee’s first full length album that this song is off of!

✬ They will be playing this Friday, October 25th at Eureka’s in Brooklyn along with a couple other bands I will play later on today’s show. It’s the third annual Halloween celebration of this particular party! Don’t wanna miss out.

First of all, fantastic song name. This is Dead Tooth’s freshly released single from this week, and the first of the year! Very exciting and a great head-banger.

desire - yuvees

the heart - lip critic

This is Suburban Speed’s third ever released single! It is very vibey and fantastically electronic, give their others a listen as well for sure.

✬ They will be playing this Friday, October 25th at Eureka’s in Brooklyn along with Yuvees and QIRL who is next up. It’s the third annual Halloween celebration of this particular party! You’ll for sure wanna make it.

This one is very unique, I love it. Great to dance and head-bang to — get your blood pumping. This is off of their album from this past May, “Hex Dealer.”

✬ They’re playing at Trans-Pecos in Ridgewood on November 11th, definitely check them out live!

monte carlo - suburban speed

Billboard - QIRL

This song is off of their first and currently only released album, “Fiction Factory” that came out earlier this year! It’s definitely worth a full listen.

✬ They will be playing this Friday, October 25th at Eureka’s in Brooklyn along with Yuvees and Suburban Speed who were both also played earlier today. For the final time, this is the third annual Halloween celebration of this particular party!

regicide - sui moto

This is Sui Moto’s first released single, releasing alongside two other tunes for your enjoyment. Give them all a listen and I can’t wait to see what they are coming up with next. They’re selling really cool cassette tapes of these songs too if you want some sick local band merch.

✬ They will be playing on November 12th at Hart Bar!

summer goth - plastic baby jesus

I picked my favorite single of theirs to play for today, but I truly love it all. Fantastic names, fantastic vibes, and there’s nothing I love more than queer punk.

✬ They have a TON of upcoming local shows planned but the nearest one is October 26th at Eureka’s. If you can’t make it to that one definitely check out what else they have coming up!

the cave - haunting ghosts

I thought it was perfect to end today’s show with something spooky, since Halloween is coming up so soon! This is off of Haunting Ghosts’ first full length album from this May, “Shadow work”, and now we are in the perfect season for it. Definitely check out each and every track on this one.

Le Bang always slays with their French sound and lyrics. Being a Euro-punk trio with awesome style, donning masks and clown noses in their photoshoots and music videos, has always made Le Bang endlessly intriguing to me. This is their single that came out at the end of this past summer, and since I’m not on air over the summer I had to make sure I played it now for you all to hear. :)

October 15th, 2024

wannabe - le bang

ineffective - the roulettes

This track is a pre-released tune from their album coming out October 25th, so make sure to check out that full album once it’s out there! This song in particular is about one of the member’s experiences teaching and the abuse of power by higher-ups in the education system. Ultimately, it’s about preserving yourself and lifting up others within a flawed system, and I think that’s a fantastic message to pass on.

✬ They will be playing an Maindrag Music on October 26th, to celebrate the release of their upcoming album!

I played their first released song last semester (called “Rudy”) and now I just had to play their second released song that came out this month. Very exciting to witness an upcoming artist killing it. This tune sounds kind of dreamy in my opinion, and I have been loving that vibe recently. I’ve also heard there have been promises of fun things to come so keep your eyes and ears out for Charms!

lifetime warranty - charms

This tune is off of their EP that came out last summer, called “In Love Without You.” I picked this one off the album because it’s my personal favorite — it’s softer and dreamier and I enjoy the vocals a lot.

✬ They will be playing October 18th at TV Eye in Ridgewood along with Trophy Wife whom I also love and played later in the show this week! A strong double-hitter over at TV Eye, definitely go see these two perform live.

This track came out a couple weeks ago and it is their first released streaming song in a couple years! This one is endlessly unique and very cool, I find it a bit hypnotizing. There is also a sick stop motion music video accompanying this song that I strongly suggest you take a peak at. Can’t wait for more from Faine.

new world - faine

best shot - cry baby

Although they released music prior, this is their first released streaming EP under this name, and it is a very strong one to come out of the gates with. The EP is called “Rottweiler,” definitely check it out. The other track on there I listen to frequently is “Blue Ribbon”, which has a cool music video as well. On “Joanie” I love the vocals and transitions between feelings throughout the whole song.

joanie - veronica

This is the second released single from LoudEye, just from last month. Can’t wait to see what they come up with next because I think this one is so groovy. I’m a big fan, especially of the sick bass you can hear in this track.

excuse me - loudeye

worth it - our lady of sorrows

It is almost this song’s 1st birthday!! Our Lady of Sorrows’ music has low-key gothic vibes, and I absolutely adore it. While they have two songs released streaming, they have even more on Bandcamp that you should definitely check out. You should check out everyone’s Bandcamp if I’m being honest and buy their albums too while you’re at it!

✬ Our Lady of Sorrows will be playing on October 19th at Pianos: Showroom! Go see an awesome band for cheap, that’s everything good all in one for you.

I’ve been a HUGE Trophy Wife fan for a while now. PLEASE bring Guts back to streaming, I listened to it all the time and I was so distraught when it disappeared out of my playlist. Anyway, today’s track is off of their new album from earlier this month called “Get Ugly.” I chose this song for today because their voice melding with the chord specifically like 5 seconds in scratches my brain So Hard and I love it.

✬ Trophy Wife will be playing on October 18th at TV Eye along with Cry Baby who was played earlier. I unfortunately can’t go to this show even though I want to so badly, which means everyone who listened and/or is reading this has to go to the show for me. Two great bands at a cool venue!

keep it - trophy wife

We’re changing now into the type of punk rock that I really vibe with. In connection with this song the band wrote in an Instagram post, “have a drink, shed a tear, punch a cop, pet your dog, and dig in.” Do exactly that all while listening.

Simon steals a lot - balaclava

good intentions - phantom handshakes

Now we are back to soft and dreamy again :) This is off of their album “Sirens at Golden Hour” from this summer, definitely check it out.

✬ They will be playing on October 16th at Baby’s All Right in Williamsburg, supporting Bathe Alone whom I don’t know as well but definitely also deserves the love. Great venue and great music, definitely check them out.

dreamscape - jackie west

This track is off of their first full length album from this past summer called “Close to the Mystery.” I love this type of sparkly folk rock. Unfortunately we just missed a couple live shows but definitely keep an eye out for more in the future. UGH, I just love mysteries and space and dreams aesthetically, thematically, and audibly, and this track has it ALL.

i’m getting drunk with my dog - mary hood

First of all, fantastic name and album cover. Also, mood? My dog knows all my deepest, darkest secrets… You know what, I should play this song for him. Anyway, this is Mary Hood’s new single from earlier this month. They had their release show last week but I want to see them soooo bad so I’ll be keeping my eyes out for anything upcoming, and I’ll of course let you know.

fishy - um jennifer?

I’m winning with all of my favorite artists releasing music these last few weeks! I have a crush on everyone involved in this band too, so that’s an extra win. Um, Jennifer? are self-proclaimed “trans slut rock” and I feel that on a deep and spiritual level. Now I just NEED them to go on tour so I can fan-out with similarly spirited people.

October 1st, 2024

This track is off of their EP that came out a couple weeks ago called “Café Life.” This one has persistently popped into my head all throughout this week and I’m not upset about it at all. Perfectly vibey :)

✬ They will be playing on October 24th at Bowery Ballroom! They are supporting Hello Mary who is another fantastic band that has been played on the show before.

The hand that i put down - starcleaner reunion

This song was written long ago as her first solo song, and I am so excited it is finally here gracing our ears. This single is light and beautiful with an accompanying beautiful music video. If you recognize her voice it may be because she was on Brooklyn Buzz last semester as the singer in Monarch. who is another fantastic group that we love over here.

the whole sea - sarah michelle lee

woohoo - night spins

This song came out over a year ago but it is still a bop and deserves a good play. Night Spins recently rocked out at Bowery Ballroom, but keep your eyes and ears out for any upcoming shows of theirs.

all bets are off - awksymoron

This single came out a couple weeks ago and it is their first released single in 4 years! I have been waiting oh so patiently for this one. Awksymoron is the brain child of Athena Matsil and I think their voice is gorgeous. Their voice, the note progressions, and the little sparkly sounds are so satisfying and beautiful. I could write about this song for hours, please check it out for yourself.

So far today we have started off the show so softly and beautifully, and this tune continues that feeling. This single came out only the week before last, and with its folk vibes it really hits the spot. Mikey Leão themselves was kind enough to listen this week, which always means the absolute world to me. Thank you <3

lonesome - Mikey leÃo

With this track we are slowly exiting the soft light vibes of today’s show. While this track came out last spring,

✬ Big Head will be playing on October 2nd at Bar Freda in Bushwick! They’re playing with Ultra Deluxe who was also played this week.

kicker 2 - big head

ghosts - red racecar

This track is off of their Ep titled “Burnout” that came out a year a go. Red Racecar is self-proclaimed “alt-rock-cowboy-punk” which to me just sounds like a list of all my favorite things. Of course, I had to play a song called ghosts now that it’s October (the best and spookiest month of the year). I have heard whisperings of new music being released by them soon, so keep your ears out for that!

✬ They will be playing on October 4th at Rockwood Music Hall as a FREE show! Absolutely check them out there.

This song is off of their new album from only a couple weeks ago! That album’s called “I’ll See You in New York” and absolutely every song should be given a listen. Moon Kissed is a more beloved band here on the Pratt campus, so you may already know them. Honestly everyone should join Moon Kissed World <3

don’t wanna know - moon kissed

negative space - debbie dopamine

This punk song only came out last week and I’ve been listening to it every day since. It’s about gender expression and disassociation, and I’ve seen it being called menacing and sensual. It really is so queer and so delightfully menacing, absolutely check it out.

Honestly just really vibey and soft so I wanted to play it this week even though it isn’t particularly new. What’s better than Glitter anyway?

the hunters - ultra deluxe

25 - glitter etiquette

This song is metal mixed with electronic in a wonderfully unique combination. I’m a particular fan of beep-boopy music, as you will come to know if you listen to BK Buzz more often. So, this tune is perfect for my tastes.

✬ They will be playing on October 2nd at Bar Freda in Bushwick! Supported by Big Head who was played on today’s show earlier as well.

Flowers - sadlands

Happy 1st birthday to his debut EP self-titled “Sadlands”!

✬ They will be playing on October 10th at Berlin Under A, and it’s a Halloween show! Ugh I love this month so much, I can’t wait for all the Halloween shows to come.

This track came out last week on an EP called “Do You Regret It?” This one makes my soft queer heart feel and cry so hard. It’s an endlessly beautiful song with an endlessly talented queer country group. The subject matter is about first queer experiences and the fear behind taking those steps. I’ve been listening to this one on repeat and getting deep in my feelings. Camp Bedford is a fantastic queer country group that deserves so much love.

✬ They played on October 2nd at Brooklyn Made :)

helen - camp bedford

September 24th, 2024

Released only a week and a half ago! Off their first ever full length album, this song makes me feel so many emotions. It has fantastic vocals, beautiful acoustic guitar, perfect vibes, and some very gorgeous Spanish lyrics and music. We’re starting off the new fall semester with a 10/10 for the first song of the first week. I’ve loved AVATAREDEN for a while now, starting with them feels very satisfying.

WATER (feat. Mobéy lola irizarry) - avatareden

Earth Hound started as a band of friends in college back in 2008. After going their separate ways for a while, all the members are back in NYC and reformed just recently! This track is off their first album since they’ve returned. It’s a live album from when they played at Pete’s Candy Store over in Williamsburg. I’m very excited to see what they do next. We love college bands almost as much as we love college radio ;)

Taking orders (live) - earth hound

pool boi - pleasure island

I’ve played this band before but I’m always happy to play them again because they have such immaculate vibes. This is truly a song for the summer — it feels like floating in the pool with a piña colada. I’d say they classify as yacht rock, which I always LOVE.

✬ They will be playing on September 27th at Unruly Collective in Bushwick!

Jumping more into a punk vibe with this one!

✬ They will be playing on September 26th at Xanadu in Bushwick! Xanadu is a skating rink and part of your ticket price goes toward a skating session before the show starts! So basically you would get a one two hit of two of the most fun things on the planet if you went to see them live this Thursday…

too late - native sun

Exclamation point! I absolutely adore me some gothic rock, and this song gives me everything I want from it. Even more excitingly, this song is off of their debut EP that came out this summer titled “Mother Superior.” You should absolutely check out the whole EP and give them some love.

inferno - love letter!

This is Blue Rumor’s second song ever released, only coming out earlier this month, and it does not disappoint. I’ve also heard whispers that they may have live show coming up in November — keep your eyes and ears out for those details.

head slow - blue rumor

life of the party - jacqueline hackett

This song only came out a few days ago! Getting softer after the previous songs, and along with that this song gets me in my feels. All us clowns out there will feel this one deeply, which you may be able to gather from the title of this track. A song that can make me feel this deeply deserves kudos.

✬ They will be playing on September 29th at Sultan Room for their album release show! Also playing is Sweetbreads and Molly Murphy who have both been played on my show before as well :)

This is their debut single from earlier this month! A first released song is always so exciting and they slayed with this one. It’s a short and sweet punk song that has a really sick and ominous accompanying music video taking place in a graveyard that you should also definitely check out..

burying ground - secret

This is a single that came out this summer! I’ve seen the band say that this song was one of the reasons the band formed in the first place, since it began as an early demo. I love shit like that, I’m happy to see it evolve so much, especially knowing how far the band has come since their beginning.

✬ They will be playing on September 25th at Bar Freda.

roulette - the fictionals

I have always loved Scout Gillett’s spooky vibes and sounds, I think they are so special. That fact stands strong with this fantastic cover of a Deftones song, making it sounds so beautiful and mysterious. This track is off of their EP that came out earlier this month, which is definitely an EP you should check out in its entirety.

✬ They will be playing on September 29th at Cassette in Ridgewood!

the comforts kill (feat. john moruzzi) - hesitant

Change (in the House of flies) - scout gillett

This track is off of their debut WP from earlier this year called “Seasons of Grief.” They sell a pink cassette of this album and I’m currently really considering purchasing it because it looks so cool…

✬ They will be playing on September 29th at the Gutter Ball in Williamsburg!

GUSTAF self identifies as glorified mania and I adore that mindset. This track is a single that came out a month ago and has a very fun music video. They repeat the same line throughout the whole song but if you fear that means the song is repetitive, you couldn’t be more wrong. You’re in for a ride!

✬ They will be playing on September 26th at Sleepwalk Bar in Bushwick and it is a completely FREE show!

I trusted you - gustaf

This song is off of their EP that came out this summer, called “Crush.” Slow Fiction is currently a special guest on Sprints’ US tour which I bet is endlessly fun.

✬ They will be playing in Brooklyn on September 28th at The Music Hall of Williamsburg which is a really cool venue!

monday - slow fiction

This track is off of their debut EP that came out earlier this month. I remember when Wifey didn’t have anything released yet but I followed them on Instagram and thought their logo and members looked so cool… Now look how far they’ve come! I played their earlier single “Mary Ann Leaves the Band” last semester but I couldn’t refrain from playing another song of theirs.

✬ They will be playing on October 5th at TV Eye!

DiMaggio - wifey
